An Eco-Friendly Art Shop

creating modern nature fine art prints + bespoke original paintings

Over three years ago, Krystle Stevenson created Farmcliff Studio out of her home in central Connecticut. Her studio is a small room with four large windows that let in lots of natural light. She paints all her artwork here - or sometimes even outside in the yard. She prefers having her studio at home so she can be accessible to her three young boys as needed, without the stress of a commute. And having 24/7 access to the kitchen is a nice bonus, too!

At the studio, Krystle creates both fine art prints and one-of-kind, hand-painted, original paintings. She loves creating both options. Prints allow more art to be accessible to more people. While original pieces create a unique connection between the artist and the collector.

All the artwork created in the studio is inspired by nature. Read on below to learn more about the different styles of art available, and to learn more about sustainability efforts.

Floral Art Prints

Whimsical florals capture the effortlessness of summer. Late summer gardens have an abundance like no other time of year. Blooms of every kind have grown wild after months of summer rains and sun. It’s a time to harvest and preserve to hold us over the winter months until the earth comes alive again next year. I paint florals as a way to preserve them, so we might enjoy them in any season - even long after the real blooms are gone.

Botanical Greens Art Prints

Minimalist, simplistic, intricate. Ah the freshness of clean, crisp, deeply pigmented greens. It’s like the beginning of the new year when we take down all the holiday décor and enjoy the minimalism of our clean, tidy space again. At the same time, it’s like the height of summer when all the foliage is thriving and the air is bursting with fresh oxygen. Add these paintings to your space generously – I see these in plant-filled corners, reading nooks, and sprinkled into gallery walls with abundance.

Rainbow Art Prints

Rainbows can, sometimes, be a light-hearted whimsical expression of child-like joy. As an adult, I have learned rainbows can also be a symbol with more complexity, nuance, depth. Rainbows symbolize many things. Learn more about the inspiration behind this series here.

Original Paintings

Krystle’s original artwork is her creative expression of her deep connection with nature.

Each painting expresses joy for the beauty of the earth using every vibrant color in the spectrum. These paintings bring awareness to the layered components of life, and to express gratitude for each. From awareness and gratitude, Krystle hopes to connect more humans to the idea of having a more reciprocal relationship with the earth and taking better care of the places we call home.

There is a deep hope in her soul that we can, and will, do better to preserve our planet.

The painting process is slow and intentional. Each painting is layered in both literal paint and figurative meaning.

Deeper meanings aside, she prefers abstract art with just enough color and texture to keep a focused, but not so much detail to feel overwhelmed or overstimulated.

Krystle leaves space for dreaming, pondering, wondering about the unknown, unplanned, and unfinished. These landscapes give a base to stand on and then let your creativity run wild.

About Sustainability

What does sustainability look like for a small home art studio?

Watercolor creations are made with biodegradable or recyclable papers, although, I hope you’ll keep it so long you don’t have worry about it’s end-life. All products are archival quality, which the art-world classifies as lasting 300 years or longer. I have two zero-waste watercolor paint suppliers who I use as often as I can.

Acrylic paintings are less sustainable unfortunately. Acrylic paint just isn’t biodegradable as it includes a polymer (plastic) component. I am mindful of this when creating. I have heard of “all-natural” acrylic paints and will be testing them out soon!

The majority of packing and shipping materials are recycled, recyclable, or compostable.

Outside the studio, I do my best to live in harmony with nature. At home we try to be as low-waste as possible, grow some of our own food, plant and maintain organic pollinator gardens, and support our local regenerative organic farm.

We switched our electricity supplier to be 100% clean energy. Know that by supporting my small art studio, you’re supporting all of these small and large ways that I try to take better care of the earth.

My process in and out of the studio certainly is not perfect. Over time I continue to learn and improve my practices.
